Banger vets still have it

Two veteran racers from Boston were winners in the pre-1985 Unlimited Bangers’ Big Reunion at King’s Lynn’s Norfolk Arena on Saturday night.

Dave Allen and Shaun Stark (pictured), who has only recently returned to the tracks, both claimed heat victories on a night which featured two enormous ‘wrecking trains’ as racers’ on-track antics made for some thrilling entertainment which sent a large crowd home happy.

Father-and-son duo Clive and Gary Beecham were also in action, piloting a smart pair of Jaguar XJSs in the colours of the old Boston Warlords team, evoking memories of racing at the New Hammond Beck Road track more than 20 years ago.

Meanwhile Amy Brown continued her strong form in season 2014 with second place in a heat, although she missed out on adding further to her tally in the meeting final.

Action returns on Saturday (6pm) with the only opportunity of the year to see earth-shaking Formula One Stock Cars and the mighty Saloon Stock Cars on the same bill.

World champion Tom Harris (Oxfordshire) heads a star-studded entry in the F1s, while the Saloons feature a number of Lincolnshire racers, including several who travelled to Scotland for the British Championship last weekend.

Then on Bank Holiday Monday the hugely popular Big Van Bangers will take to the track for the first time this year.

They will be supported by Two-Litre (non-Mondeo) Bangers, with the programme completed by Junior Bangers and 1300cc Stock Cars.
