SCUDERIA Vittoria pairing Charles Bateman and Michael Lyons secured their second victory of the Avon Tyres British GT Championship season - after a dramatic three-hour endurance race into darkness at Donington Park.
The duo had qualified in eighth place in their Ferrari 458 Italia, but played the strategy game well to move into the lead, heading into the final hour of the race.
Despite a third safety car period, the Ferrari came home to give the team its first win since the opening rounds of the campaign at Oulton Park.
The race had started in the wet after earlier rain, which led to tricky conditions throughout Charles’ opening stint.
By lap 13, Charles had picked his way through the field to third, which he maintained until the first pit stop on lap 29.
The team successfully pitted twice more and took the lead on lap 77 to eventually take the chequered flag with a 6.05 second lead after 105 laps.
Charles and his teammate are now lying fourthth overall in the Avon Tyres British GT Championship.
A delighted Charles said: “This was a tough race but fantastic result.
“To win the first ever three-hour enduro race in the championship history is great for us and our sponsors Pilgrim Foodservice, Henderson Insurance and Lyons Haulage.”
The next race is at Silverstone on Saturday, October 8.
