ROSS Batey gave his all in a bruising contest against defending Amateur Boxing Association All-England middleweight champion George Jovecetas on Sunday, but just missed out on a place in the national finals.
Fighting at Coventry, Boston ABC’s Batey put in a superb performance against the former junior European champion, who has a record of 34 wins from 38 fights.
Birmingham’s Jovecetas picked up points as he patiently waited to spot holes in Batey’s defence, but as the contest developed, so did the Boston fighter’s confidence and aggression.
Willing to take some punishment in order to dish it out, Batey didn’t hold back and made a heroic effort to claim the victory during a final onslaught in the last round.
However, the champion remained focused, rode the storm and claimed a points victory.
