Boston’s Nesta Baxter scooped gold in the Irish Open International Kickboxing Tournament this weekend.
The 13-year-old took the scalp of more experienced fighters to win the girls’ under 16 years -50kg points category.
And her medal haul didn’t end there, with the Boston High School pupil also taking bronze in the girls’ under 16 years -55kg points, which demanded she also gave away a weight advantage to her opponents.
Nesta - who competes for Boston’s Evolution Martial Arts club - enjoyed some strong fights against all comers, going toe to toe with opponents from Italy, Germany, Greece, the UK and Ireland.
In total, 3,452 fighters took part in the competition, which was held over three days and also included fighters from the USA, Mexico and across Europe.
Nesta’s clubmate Ambie Brockelsby also took part in the event.
He fought hard, getting through to the quarter finals in his category.
Nesta was helped on her way to Ireland by sponsors Acorn Taxis and Smart Move.
