BERNICE Wilson has been named in the Great Britain squad to compete in next month’s European Indoor Championships - and she has warned her fellow competitors that she is going for gold.

The Wyberton sprinter learned yesterday (Tuesday) she had been included in Team GB to compete in the 60m event.

“I’m very excited,” Bernice told The Standard.

“It’s my first major championship and I’m looking forward to the experience.

“But I’m obviously going there to win. That’s my plan.”

The championships, held in Paris on March 4-6, have come at the right time for the 26-year-old, who is in the form of her life.

Two weeks ago the Birchfield Harrier clocked a personal best 7.25m over 60m.

And this weekend she clocked 7.26 secs to come second in the Aviva Birmingham Grand Prix at the National Indoor Arena.

Bernice was pipped into second on the line by USA’s Gloria Asumnu, in her first taste of international competition this season.

The GB squad will travel out to Paris on Wednesday, with Bernice competing on Saturday and Sunday, March 5 and 6.
