BOSTON-area athletes featured in the 2012 Lincolnshire Schools and Lincolnshire Athletic Association joint Combined Events Championships at The Tommy Clay Track.
It was a very disappointing entry, with the smallest-ever number of multi-eventers challenging for county awards and selection for the ESAA Regional Schools Championships.
Conditions at the Princess Royal Sports Arena were cold and blustery, preventing the competitors from producing noteable performances.
In the junior girls’ pentathlon, Frances Nuttell finished in second position with a total of 2217 points.
The young Gold Top opened with a 75m hurdles performance of 13.4 secs and then putt the shot 6.49m.
Her performance in the high jump was, for her, a below-par 1.39m and was followed by a long jump measuring 4.24m.
In the fifth and final challenge, Frances ran the 800m in 3 mins 07.1 secs to claim second position in the championship.
Alice Flint was also second in the under 20 women’s heptathlon championship.
She opened with a 19.4 secs performance in the demanding 100m hurdles and then cleared 1.26m in the high jump.
A shot putt of 5.33m preceded the 27.9 secs recorded in the 200m, the last event on the first day’s programme.
On day two, Alice opened with a leap of 4.15m in the long jump and then threw the 600g javelin 13.35m.
In the final event, and competing in a more familiar discipline, Alice recorded 2 mins 34.9 secs for the 800m to finish with a heptathlon total of 2693 points to claim the 2012 Lincolnshire silver award.
Two Haven High Technology College students filled the first two positions in the junior boys pentathlon championship.
Tiago Torres was Lincolnshire under 15 boys’ champion with Jacub Bilinski runner-up, with both projecting themselves into the Lincs team for the ESAA Regional Championships next month.
Tiago ran 80m hurdles in 14.1 secs and then produced an 8.26m performance in the shot event.
A high-scoring 1.70m clearance in high jump was followed by a 4.80m leap in the long jump competition.
Tiago concluded his winning pentathlon with an 800m time of 2 mins 45.5 secs to finish with a points total of 1907.
Jakub ran 15.0 secs for the hurdles and then putt the shot 8.45m.
In high jump he cleared a disappointing 1.43m, and then produced a 4.83 long jump.
Despite being unable to finish the final event the 800m Jacub took second.
Another Haven High representative who made an impression in the junior boys pentathlon championships was Bruno Pinto.
