Three distance-running competitors from Boston and District Athletic Club braved the elements to take part in the 2013 National Cross-country Championships.

The trio took on the terrain, as well as freezing cold conditions in snowy Sunderland on Saturday.

However, the bitterly cold conditions did not deter Emma Penniston.

She took part in the junior women’s event - held over the distance of 6k.

And as she crossed the finish line, she was in 89th position.

Two Gold Tops lined up on the start line for the under 13 boys championship.

Competing over 3k were Blake Garwell and Jack Rushby.

First home from the duo was Blake.

He picked a good time to return to form and he completed the course in a time of 12 mins 56 secs.

That was enough to record 92nd place overall.

In the same challenging event, Jack crossed the finish line a time of 14 mins 54 secs.

That was enough for him to secure 187th spot.
