Boston Hockey Club’s men’s team secured a 5-2 victory over derby foes Grantham.
Richard Wightman and Andy Stone both grabbed braces, while Harry Stephenson was also on target for the hosts on Saturday.
From the off, Boston were the stronger side.
The hosts took the lead within five minutes as Wightman finished with a clean sweep from 10 yards out.
Boston had the rare luxury of playing with a settled defence, with Benn Carr, Matt Wingate and Mark Haynes frustrating the visitors with fine interventions.
Wightman soon got his second goal of the match, a determined strike from the top of the D putting Boston 2-0 up.
However, Grantham reduced the arrears two minutes before the interval, Wingate deflecting the ball beyond keeper Jack Ashton.
Within minutes of the re-start, Boston regained their two-goal advantage.
Connor Gilbert and Cameron Salisbury combined to tee up Andy Stone, who took his tally to five goals for the season.
Midway through the second half, Boston received their fourth penalty corner of the match.
And with Harry Stephenson back in the side, the dependable hotshot stepped up to the mark and unleashed a solid strike which found the net with the Grantham keeper rooted to the spot.
Boston’s final goal saw Andy Stone’s name on the scoresheet once again, following a snatch from under the keeper’s feet and a sweep into the back of the net.
In the dying minutes, Grantham were awarded a penalty corner and a deflection got them a consolation goal.
The players’ player award went to Andy Stone.
On Saturday, Boston travel to St Ives to play the side topping the East Hockey League Division 5NW.
