There were mixed fortunes for the two Boston Amateur Swimming Club teams in the latest round of the Anglian League competition.

It was the first time that the A and B teams hadn’t been drawn in the same event during the 2013 competition.

The A team were looking to maintain their position at the top of the league when they travelled to March, while a depleted B team, who were missing a number of swimmers, travelled to Kings Lynn.

Siblings Lauren and James Hurley helped get the A team off to a good start with two first places each in the first 10 races.

Their contribution together with a number of second-place finishes meant Boston had a slender two point advantage over the Fenland Flyers.

The gap began to widen during the next 10 races with Jessica Pettitt, Libby Dean-Allen, Connor Spinks and Millie Prudden adding maximum points each to the tally.

Boston, by race 20, had an eight-point lead.

But a series of strong finishes from the Fenland Flyers meant that by race 26 the advantage had reduced to just one point.

The team moved up a gear for the final four individual races, with Harry Dean-Allen (boys 15 and under 100m backstroke), Lauren Hurley (girls 15 and under 100m backstroke), Isaac Reed (boys 13 and under 100m breaststroke) and Chloe Baldry (girls 13 and under 100m breaststroke) all winning their races.

This meant that the A team could go into the mixed 6x50m relay knowing they had won the gala and were still top of the Anglian League.

It was a different story over at Kings Lynn, where the B team faced tough competition.

The team suffered with a number of disqualifications and just Edward Proctor (boys 13 and under 100m freestyle) and Jessica Pearson (girls open 50m backstroke) could add maximum points for the team.

The team battled on throughout the night and achieved several personal bests but finished fourth overall.

Final positions: (March) 1 Boston A 94, 2 Fenland Flyers 90, 3 Wisbech 80, 4 St Neots 40.

(Kings Lynn) 1 St Ives 102, 2 Thetford 86, 3 West Norfolk 62, 4 Boston B 51.

Race wins: Chloe Baldry, Kieva Clegg, Harry Dean-Allen, Libby Dean-Allen, James Hurley (two), Lauren Hurley (two), Jessica Pearson, Jessica Pettitt, Edward Proctor, Millie Prudden, Isaac Reed, Connor Spinks.

Personal bests: Rosanna Abbott, Myles Beagles, Libby Dean-Allen, James Hurley, Lauren Hurley, Holly Hutchings, Sam Macleod, Danielle Miles, Jessica Pearson (two), Jessica Pettitt, William Pettitt (two), Edward Proctor (two), Millie Prudden, Isaac Reed (three), Connor Spinks (two).
