Boston West ladies host Macmillan fundraising tournament

A MIXED team of Boston West and Spalding Golf Club Ladies have won a charity am-am fundraiser.

The winning team - Angie Chilvers and Barbara Vipond from Boston West, Della Walker and Jenny Wilson from Spalding Golf Club - were seven points clear of second place on the Boston West course.

The am-am was in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support and on the day in excess of £2,000 was raised.

In second place with 92 points on countback were Pam Gibson, Sue Taylor, Jan Stephenson, Pat Hall (Belton Woods), ahead of third-placed Pam Shepherd, Janet Moody, Gill Leverton, Peggy Hales (Louth).

In fourth were Mags McArdle, Mary Ellis, Eileen Bridge, Carole Holland (Boston West) with 91 points.

Other placings: 5 Judy Goggon, Lynn Catley, Elisabeth Jenson, Joyce Jenitt (Waltham Windmill) 91, 6 Meg Illingworth. Fiona Illingworth, A. Limbert, Pat Haynes (Belton Park) 91, 7 Dina Reedman, Elaine Harrison, Pat West, Elizabeth Holbrook (Spalding) 90, 8 Hilary Calvert, Kate Hall Jones, Vanessa Johnson, Joan Young (Boston) 90, 9 Elizabeth Goodacre, Jackie Brooks, Marjie Thompson, Jill Barry (Belton Park) 90, 10 Millie Thorold, Barbara Newcombe, Diane Sanderson and Hannah Thorold (Spalding) 89.

Nearest the pin in the bronze division went to Chris Sheriff (Boston Golf Club) and the silver division title was won by Pat West (Spalding Golf Club).

Straightest drive in the bronze division was Jean Sanderson (Boston West) and longest drive went to Bev Palfreyman (Pottergate).

Only three ladies scored twos, and all on different holes on the course - Sheila Green (Louth), Marion Bavin (Boston) and Pat West (Spalding).

Boston West ladies played in the third round of the Daily Mail competition on Sunday at Toft.

They received a bye in rounds one and two but lost 4-1 away at Toft.

Lady captain Val Aspland was the only Boston West player to win her match.

The club’s March stableford was won by Barbara Vipond with 33 points on countback, followed by Andy Thorlby.

The Winter Eclectic competition was won by Barbara Vipond in category 1-4, with best gross and nett score followed by Andy Thorlby in category five.

The first friendly match was at played at home against Boston, with the team losing 3-1.

Barbara Vipond and Isabel Pikett won their match 4&2.

The April medal was won by Penny Russell with a nett 67, reducing her handicap from 26 to 24.

Second was Judy Brown with nett 70.

Julie Brereton and Maria Williamson represented Boston West in the Daily Mail Foursomes at Toft and lost 3&2

Boston West won 3-1 in a friendly match at home against Thorny Lakes.

Val Aspland and Judy Brown won 4&3, June Mclennan and Jenny Newhouse won 3&2, Adria Brandon and Ann Creasey won 6&4, Julie Brereton and Mary Barnes lost 1 down.

The April stableford was won by Val Wilkinson with 38 points, followed by Barbara Vipond with 36 points.
