JARED Brereton moved into the second round of the All-England ABA Junior Championships after victory over Charlie Benner on Saturday.

Fighting at Horncastle on Saturday night, the Boston ABC junior was second best in the opening exchanges, throwing too many aimless right and left swings, leaving himself open for Benner to counter-attack.

But with no real damage done, Brereton put his left lead to good use in the second.

It restricted Benner’s approach, and the wild swings of the opening round became more measured, finding their target more times than not, leaving the Nottingham lad few opportunities to retaliate.

Benner used the big ring for refuge and counter attacked.

But in the final round, the Boston junior added more of the same to be a determined winner.

There was no respite for the Nottingham fighter.

Eventually, he began to tire as Brereton applied pressure in the closing seconds of the contest.

As the final bell rang out, it was the Boston fighter who received the judges’ decision.

Fellow Boston ABC representative Thomas Pogson did not fight due to a disparity in weight between him and his opponent.
