Before the championship, Mickie competed in the Speedway British Youth Best Pairs event in Cumbria with partner Alex Goldsbrough, finishing eighth from 11 teams.

Competing for the King’s Lynn-based Southern Track Riders in Scunthorpe, Mickie claimed another third.

He won race one with a personal best on the Scunny track with a time of 67.7 secs.

After this he finished second, second and third in his remaining heats.

In the final, Mickie finished third behind Harry McGurk and Jordan Palin, with Luke Harrison fourth.
