Burton claims first place in Witham Sailing Club’s menagerie

WITHAM Sailing Club held the third and final race of the menagerie series.

A total total of 16 boats made it to the start line, the most seen in action in several years.

Paul Burton, in his National 12, made a good start with Alan Cox’s Enterprise closely behind.

Burton managed to hold Cox off as he made it round the first mark.

But by the second mark it was all change with Frank Royle, in his Wayfarer, rounding first, before Cox stormed into the lead, holding on to first place.

Burton managed to pass Royle to take second place.

Once times had been corrected for handicaps, Ewan Morgan, in his Topper, was the highest-placed junior and first Topper home, taking third place overall.

Kialan Thompson and Freddy Carr both had their first races of the season in their Toppers.

Series results: 1 Paul Burton, 2 Ceri Morgan, 3 Alan Cox.

Witham Sailing Club will be holding a free open day on Sunday at Antons Gowt.

The club also meets every Wednesday from 6pm.
