John Chain has hit a purple patch on the greens.

Competing in the Boston West Golf Club’s senior section, he claimed the overall best gross after two rounds of the Seniors Championship, also winning the June Medal.

In round one of the Seniors Championship he recorded the best gross, with Norman Smith claiming the best nett.

John again earned the best gross in round two, with the nett award going to Paul Heppenstall on this occasion.

He was the overall winner of the best gross with 166.

Les Martin won the overall best nett award with 146.

In the June Medal, playing off the white tees, John returned with 73 points, ahead of runner-up Royce Twigg (74) and Peter Kelly (79), who was third on countback.

The Killer Ball Team Stableford was won by the trio of Terry Coulter, Denis Barton and Royce Twigg with 124 points.

Paul Heppenstall won the Medford Individual competition.

The format saw the front nine holes played as a medal and the back nine as a stableford.

His score of 14 was enough to see off challenges from runner-up Geoff Upsall (15.5) and third-placed Barrie Wilkinson (18).

The senior team earned a 5-3 home victory against Belton Woods.

The winning pairs were Andy Frankowski & Terry Coulter, Phil Thomas & Mike Rowe, John Chain & Neil McCallum, Stewart Pikett & Peter Kelly, Ken Steele & Graham Goor.

A 3-6 home defeat against Blankney followed, with Stewart Pikett & Adrian Holland, Peter Kelly & Keith Ambrose winning and Royce Twigg & Mike Rowe and Neil McCallum & Les Martin halving.
