Boston golfer Dave Coupland suffered a frustrating time at the Madeira Islands Open - after the event had to be cancelled.
Strong winds, heavy rain and thick fog meant that the neccessary 36 holes could not be completed on the Portuguese island, leaving the joint European Tour and Challenge Tour event void.
Coupland finished his first round - which had to be postponed twice due to the conditions - on a seven-over-par 79 shots.
“Wow that was an experience! Played 13 holes. Play got suspended for wind and rain like I’ve never seen,” he wrote on Twitter.
The tournament was due to begin on Thursday, but by Saturday Coupland saw his opening round postponed a second time as he was on the 17th.
This is just the third event in European Tour history to be subject to a cancellation.
Dave will now compete at the Challenge Tour’s Kenya Open, beginning on April 9.
