Cullen hopes injury won’t hamper GB bid

CRISTA Cullen is hopeful she will still make it into the Great Britain hockey team for the Olympic Games - despite picking up an ankle injury.

The Boston-born defender picked up the injury playing for Team GB at the Olympic Park’s Riverbank Arena as they new stadium was tested in preparation for London 2012 with a weekend tournament.

Cullen - a penalty corner expert - twisted her ankle scoring the second of her brace as her side defeated current world champions Argentina 2-0 in the final.

The opposition’s roughhouse approach drew criticism from the GB team.

However, it is hoped that Cullen, 26, will be fit in time to be named in the 16-person squad when it is named on May 18.

Cullen, who plays for Leicester, helped England win bronze in the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.

She also has two European bronze medals.

Cullen also reprersented GB in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
