Boston Hockey Club Ladies went down to a 2-1 defeat against Woodhall Spa Firsts.

Again, the side were fielding a depleted team, missing vital players and having to play a team member down.

The game started out fairly evenly before Boston started to get a foothold in the match.

Great attacking play from Lisa Ceaser, Akayla Newton, Lauren Pitts and Hermione Wright saw the hosts have the better of the opening half, albeit little to show for their endeavours.

Woodhall were fast on the break but rock-solid defending from Kelly Tomlinson, Alice Peto and Claire Nundy - plus great saves by Donna Chester-O’Neill - denied them of their chances early on.

Woodhall eventually broke through and held a 1-0 interval lead.

Boston improved further in the second half and great movement on and off the ball by Lauren Harvey created chances.

Newton levelled the scores from a move which involved Harvey, Katie Beeson and good running from Pitts.

Boston’s workrate was good but being a player down was taking its toll.

Woodhall broke quickly once more and took the lead for a second time, in this Eastern League Division 3NW contest.

Although Boston had a number of chances before the end of the game, they couldn’t convert them.

Boston return to action on January 11, away at Wisbech Seconds, with push back at 4pm.
