BOSTON and District Athletic Club hosted the first of this season’s Lincolnshire Cross Country League matches at Skegness on Sunday.
Eighteen Gold Tops tackled the testing, energy sapping course over the east coast sand dunes and in dry, mild weather conditions they gained early season success.
In the Junior, Senior, Veteran Men’s race, over four laps and a total of 9,390 metres, five BADAC runners lined up on the start line.
Shaun North was the first finisher entering the funnel in 10th place with Dennis Rainbow claiming 15th position.
Third counter for the team was Aidan McClure who was third in the Junior Men’s category and 19th overall. There was good back up from Darren Rushby (40th) and Ian Scott (49th).
In the Junior, Senior Veteran Ladies challenge, over 5548 metres, junior Emma Penniston maintained a good pace throughout crossing the finish line in 10th position.
Running well in her first cross country event Fran Mills surprised herself in claiming a promising place.
At Under 17 Men’s level Josh Maund ran strongly and with confidence in third place and Oliver Smith used the race to get in some valuable stamina training coming home fourth at the end of the 5548 metres event.
In the Under 15 Boys 4084 metres race Daniel Martin opened his 2011-2012 club cross country account in 13th position and in the same age group Isabel Rushby finished eighth at the end of the 3136 metres girl’s event.
Four Under 13 representatives made their debuts for BADAC in the Under 13 Boys event over 2299 metres Tom Evans finished well forward in seventh place.
There was excellent support from Matthew Connolly who closed in 11th and Gwyon Joyce who completed the team scorers in 14th position.
In the girl’s event, over the same distance, Chiara Faratro finished 16th in her first run for the club.
Jack Rushby impressed in the Under 11 Boys race completing the 1351 metres in a good fourth place.
In support David Scott crossed the line in 24th position.
The second match in the Lincs League series will take place on Sunday, November 6, at London Road, Louth.
There will be events for all male and female age groups from Under 11 up to Veterans with the first race at 11-45 am.
