England calling? Boxer Nina Bradley faces a wait to see if she’s in the national squad

Boston ABC’s Nina Bradley is waiting to hear whether or not she will be called up to the England women’s boxing squad.

On Saturday she travelled to Leeds to take part in a squad selection training day, with hopes of boxing for England in six weeks’ time.

The selection team was headed by long-standing England coach Mick Gannon, who was impressed with Bradley’s approach to the day.

Coach John Sutton accompanied Bradley, and said: “ It was a fantasic day and Nina will benefit from the experience, but I will be amazed if she does not make the short list.

“She was impressive.”

William O’Connor’s run in the junior Amateur Boxing Association championships ended this weekend.

Boxing in the quarter-finals at Great Barr Leisure Centre, Birmingham, he was beaten unanimously by Sailsbury ABC’s Connor Jenkins.

Tommy Upsall marked his return to boxing following a 15-year absence this weekend.

Fighting at King’s Lynn, the former schoolboy champion missed out as opponent Danny Williamson (Ferry Street) got the decision in an entertaining bout.
