BOSTON Tennis Club’s teams have been involved in in-house derby matches this Bank Holiday weekend.
On Saturday, a Lincolnshire Doubles League Division One encounter between the club’s men’s first and second teams took place.
The Firsts – Richard Cook, Steven Green, Solomon Koomson, Dominic Beesley, Henry Beesley and Will Mason - claimed a 9-0 victory over the Seconds, whose side included Ray Frankish, Calum McCaig, James Newton and Lewis Fisher.
On Sunday, there were two further derbies.
The men’s Thirds turned out against the Fourths in Division 3A.
The thirds – Chris Cook, John Gibson, Geoff Short, Richard Hart, Mike Sweeney and Richard Tupper earned a 7-2 success after trailing following the first round.
Playing for the fourth team were Dan Bambridge, Anthony Hulley, Owen Jary, Peter Elphick, Sam Khan and Michael Audus.
The ladies’ Thirds, playing in Division Two, also made a shaky start against the Fourths.
The team of Hilary Calvert, Linda Barrow, Helen Cook, Sophie Hawkesworth, Helen Motson and Dana Kennaelly-Forrester eventually managed a 7-2 win.
The fourth team included Joan Beale, Jane Hindmarch, Jayne Walsh, Denise Priestley, Tricia Sweeney and Helen Duckett.
Lucas East made it third-time lucky after competing in a number of singles tournaments over Easter.
He took part in a Grade Four singles tournament at Nuffield, Hull, this week.
He reached the final before going down 4-1, 5-3.
In a Grade Three event at Norwich, in a rain affected tournament, Lucas played well before losing out again in the final.
At last, in a Grade Four at Carisbrooke, Leicester on Good Friday, Lucas played some really good tennis to reach the final, in which he won 6-2.
