WYBERTON-based Team G&S Racing returned to Lincolnshire with just a solitary championship point to their name when Tom Fisher secured the final points scoring position of 15th in round nine of the 2012 Metzeler National Superstock 600 championship at Brands Hatch on Sunday.
Fisher suffered some set-up problems in qualifying which saw him down in 16th place for the start of Sunday’s 12-lap race.
He said: “We changed the gearing for qualifying to see if we could get some more from the Kawasaki but unfortunately we went the wrong way.
“So we changed it all back for morning warm up on Sunday and also tweaked the suspension.”
As the race got underway, Fisher didn’t get the start he wanted and completed the first lap down in 18th place.
But he progressed up to 14th on lap nine before being beaten back by Nick Anderson and Michael Robertson.
But on the final lap he managed to get back ahead of Robertson once again to claim 15th place and add one championship point to his tally bringing his total haul up to 70.
After a run of top six finishes Fisher was a little disappointed with his result and said: “The bike was running better during the race and I shaved another second from my lap times set in qualifying which is good.
“Let’s hope I can find my recent form again at Cadwell in the next round.
“It’s the team’s home round and I really want to give them a top result.
“Thanks to the team who have worked hard all weekend to keep my bike running smoothly and a big thank you to all our sponsors who have given us their continued support this year ”
With 70 championship points in the bag, Fisher holds eighth place in the rider standings but the points are very close and a good result from Cadwell at the end of August could see him move further up the table.
