Boston Tennis Club youngsters did themselves proud at a grade three tournament in West Bridgford.
Matthew Gedney (pictured) won the 12 and under boys event while William Cheer finished fifth in the 10 and unders.
Lucy Hull and Victoria Beardsley reached the quarter-finals in the girls’ 14 and under section.
Matthew went on to reach the last 16 in the under 12s at the Bolton Arena Winter National Tour, a grade two event.
He earned a win over a higher-rated player, but then lost to the eventual runner-up.
Henry Beesley played at the grade two Sunderland Tennis Centre Winter National under 16 boys tournament.
Accumulating two good wins in the process, Henry reached the semi-finals before losing out to the eventual runner-up.
The Boston club’s Halloween Indoor grade four tournament was held over the half term holidays and proved a great success.
There was a good representation from Boston in the nine and under age group, including Hannah Willis, Rebecca Dickens, James Burrell, Katie Wood, Jessica Stephens, Bethany Hayes, Isabelle Servonat and William Shears.
William Shears was the runner-up, missing out to Lincoln’s James Peatfield 5-7, 4-7 in the final.
In the 10 and unders, Devon Morgan and Harvey Vickers represented Boston and Harvey Vickers was the runner-up to Lincoln’s Hugo Hunt.
In the 12 and under boys, Dominic Sharpe, Matthew Dickens, Thomas Mecklenburgh and Max Mecklenburgh competed and Michael Niedermeier and Connall Newton were in the mix in the 14 and under boys.
Although not claiming the top spots, there were some closely-fought matches and valuable experience gained.
The girl’s 14 and unders had a strong contingent of club members – Victoria Beardsley, Chloe Robinson, Charlotte Priestley, Lucy Hull and Sophie Burnett.
Victoria Beardsley was the winner, beating Marleyna Trifunovic of Derbyshire 4-2, 5-4 in the final.
Lucy Hull lost a very close third/fourth play off 5-3, 4-5, and missed out 7-10 in the third set tie-break.
Boston B picked up a 3.5-0.5 victory in the Boston and District Winter League.
Playing the club’s E team, David Cheer, Sev Smura, Charlotte Priestley and Calum McCaig dropped just one set to defeat Richard Tupper, Ladi Hruban, Paul Stevenson and Elliott Saw.
