Les Gillett won the £1,500 cheque for first prize at the Planetbowls.com Grand Prix final, hosted by Boston Indoor Bowls Club this weekend.

As the first round of games came to an end, favourite Nicky Brett, last year’s Boston Open Champion, was beaten 2-1 on a tie-break by Perry Martin.

Other big names out in round one were Sam Tolchard, Danny Denison, Neil Smith and Phil Broughton.

Progressing into the open draw for the quarter finals were Martin, who lost to Gillett, Danny Brown, who lost out on a tie break to Scott Edwards, Barry Jenkins who beat Phil Last 2-0 on a tie break and Lee Rowland, who fell to 17-year-old Katherine Rednall.

The first semi saw Edwards edge past Jenkins and Gillett prove too experienced for Rednall.

The final was a tight game of the very highest standard, Gillett snatching it on a tie-break.
