The Hurricanes proved that girl power is still strong as they were crowned the champions of Sunday’s Battle of the Sexes netball tournament.

The charity competition pitted teams of males and females against one another.

And, from the 16 teams taking part, it was the ladies who finished on top.

The eight guys teams - Thrown Together, Kirton Killerz, Kirton Globetrotters, Nothin’ but Net, S.M. Kent Bullets, All Starz, Tangerine Machine and The Boobie Grabbers - and eight gals - sides Boston United, Sweaty Betties, The Dollies, NetChix, Lastminute.net, The Boston Misfits, Hurricanes and Flinders Birds - did battle.

Experience paid off for the ladies as the Sweaty Betties and Hurricanes reached the final, with Hurricanes winning 11-6.

The best-performing men’s team were Nothin’ but Net who reached the semi stage before falling to the Hurricanes.

The day’s Best Guy Award went to Matt Knowles (Thrown Together) and Jade Potter (Hurricanes) claimed the Best Girl Award.

The Wooden Spoon went to the Flinders Birds Team and Nothin’ But Nets’ Gavin Black earned himself the Bad Boy Award.

The tournament and family fun day - a charity fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Society, sponsored by Kirton Middlecott Sports Centre, S.M. Kent Building and Taylored Security Services - raised approximately £1,400.
