THROWER Sarah Stanhope won hammer gold at the Eastern Athletics Association Championships – with a new championship-best throw of 43.53m.

Competing in the under 20s ladies 4kg event, she fought off competition from seven counties.

However, she was disappointed with the distance, which was down on her usual standards.

But Sarah, from Wrangle, was happier with her performances at the Lincolnshire Schools’ Athletics Championships at Boston, where she threw the 4kg hammer a new championship best distance of 46.82m – which is also a new personal best throw.

She also gained a personal best in the 1kg discus where she claimed first place with a throw of 32.10m, and also finished with a new PB in the javelin with a distance of 29.26m.

Sarah is a sixth form student at the Giles Academy Old Leake.

Members of Lincolnshire Athletics Academy recorded some good results at the Lincolnshire Schools’ Athletics Championships on Saturday.
