Boston West Golf Club’s Course Manager Richard Owens has scooped a national title at the annual Golf Environment Awards Dinner.
Richard claimed the 2014 Conservation Greenkeeper of the Year award at the showcase dinner in Harrogate.
The accolade comes after Richard’s many years demonstrating how golf courses can showcase environmental best practice as well providing the perfect playing conditions.
“I was delighted to be named the UK’s Conservation Greenkeeper of the Year and it is certainly the highlight of my career to date,” Richard said.
“To say I am proud is an understatement.
“It is clear to see that our natural world can and is thriving alongside the day to day activities of a golf club.
“Ecology and wildlife management is an integral part of the daily routine for the Greenkeepers at Boston West.
“Creating a diverse range of habitats has ensured that many different species of wildlife are attracted to this golfing environment.”
Richard has been working at the Hubberts Bridge course since its opening in 1995.
