WRANGLE angler Alan Steadman claimed second spot at the latest Skegness Pier Angling Club (SPAC) match.
The event was billed as a sole match, and was arranged to be fished at Winthorpe Avenue, over low water and on a neap tide, specifically to target the tasty flatfish.
However, smoothounds muscled in on proceedings.
Alan caught more fish than winner Dave Burr (69lb 9½oz), but their smaller average size saw his haul weigh in at 58lb 10½oz.
Smoothounds are ineligible for the heaviest round fish award, so Wrangle’s Paul Cridland was the winner with a tiny ½oz (17cm) weever.
The next SPAC match will be on Sunday at Wolla Bank (10am-2pm).
