HENRY Beesley can claim to have done what so many young tennis stars dream of - winning at Wimbledon.

The Boston Tennis Club youngster won the right to compete at the All England Club after impressing at the Road to Wimbledon tournament.

At SW19, Beesley played in a round robin box of three and won two of his matches.

This meant he qualified for the main draw, where he was defeated by Suffolk’s James Ling, the number eight seed, 4-6 1-6.

But Henry’s Wimbledon adventure did not end there.

He paired up with Ben Kirk from Shropshire in the doubles.

They successfully won one round before losing to the seventh seeds.

Meanwhile, Henry’s older brother Dom Beesley won the Grantham Grade Three tournament on Saturday, before travelling to Bournemouth to compete in the under 16 nationals championships.

It is the first time he has qualified for the event.

Unseeded, he won two rounds of qualifying in three sets to reach the main draw.

He then beat Angus Mccall 6-3, 7-6 to reach the last 16, before losing out to number one seed Joshua Page.

In the Lincolnshire Doubles League, Boston men’s Thirds - Carl Robinson, Calum McCaig, Mike Sweeney, James Newton, Ray Frankish and Sam Khan - beat Tennis Buddies 9-0.

The team has had some close defeats this season so this was a welcome win.

The ladies’ Seconds had a good start to the season when the team almost beat the Boston Firsts, and then had wins against Grimsby and Collingham.

Then wins eluded the team and it was therefore good for the team to beat Grantham 7-2 on Saturday in the penultimate match of the season.

It was a home advantage for the team of Catherine Ellis, Vicki Coda East, Vikki Lowe, Andrea Jackson, Hilary Calvert and Mary Smura.

A 2-1 lead in the first round progressed to a 5-1 win in the second after captain Catherine and partner Vicki, trailing by a set, turned around the rubber against Grantham’s first pair.

Next week the Junior County Closed Championships of Lincolnshire will take place at Boston Tennis Club.

The tournament concludes with the finals on Saturday, September 3.

Spectators are welcome at Boston Tennis Club all through the tournament.
