Honours were even when Lodgers B hosted newly promoted Lodgers C in Division One of the Boston and District Table Tennis League.

Scott Sykes was the destroyer for the C team, winning his three. Andy Birks almost emulated Scott’s clean sweep, but lost out in four sets to Colin Bell.

Andrew Pocklington, playing his first match in Division One, went two sets up against David Kime, but David recovered to take the next three.

Andrew also took an end from Colin, but in his final game, was bamboozled by Trev Blackbourn’s style.

The B team also claimed the doubles.

Lodgers C had a tough lesson when they hosted stablemates Lodgers A, eight of the games going to the A team in straight sets.

The first game on the table was critical, Scott Sykes taking on Gary Hill, Gary winning the deciding fifth leg. Andrew Pocklington had an encouraging night, losing three legs at deuce to Gary in a four set match.

Andy Gilbert made a welcome first appearance of the season for Sibsey C, against Graves Park A, winning two games to help Sibsey forget their first match against Penmaen, with straight set victories over Alan Reetham and Phil Brooks.

Rob Smith was the man of the match for the Park, however, winning his three in four sets each time, whilst Phil Brooks chipped in with two wins, a tight three-ender against Roger Hooten, and an even tighter five-setter against Dave Smith.

Alan, meanwhile, will feel that things are just not going his way, going down in five sets to both Dave and Roger. With the match poised at 5-4, the Park held their nerve to celebrate a hard-fought victory.
