James leads the way in Wheelers’ first time trial of 2011

The first time trial of the season saw 39 riders competing in Boston Wheelers’ 18-mile hilly TT.

The race is held annually and is contested by four local clubs - Alford Wheelers, Skegness Wheelers, Yello Velo and the hosts.

Weather conditions on the day were cold and overcast, with a stiff wind, which made the four miles from Tumby to Revesby particularly difficult.

But despite this, Boston posted some good times, only narrowly missing out on retaining the Fred James trophy for the second year running, Alford Wheelers running out as the winning team.

Wheelers results: James Harness (second claim) 45 mins 55 secs, Martin White 47 mins 07 secs, Paul Hutchinson 47 mins 08 secs, Darren Smith 47 mins 49 secs (PB), Charlie Porter 51 mins 16 secs (fixed), Alan Sharpe 56 mins 52 secs (PB), Steve Blackburn 1 hr 57 secs, Jez Hyland 1 hr 07 mins 36 secs (first TT).
