SPEEDWAY star Simon Lambert scooped second spot in the Golden Hammer event.
The Gosberton Risegate rider was competing at Monmore Green, Wolverhampton, seeing off all but one of the field of 16.
A slip up saw Lambert touch the tapes in his first ride in the solo event.
This meant he had to start off with a 15m handicap in the second race, where he came third.
He then won his next three rides and then ran a second-place finish, ending up with 12 points.
Lambert said: “I was really kicking myself for making such a stupid mistake in my first ride.
“Losing that ride cost me first place.
“I won the trophy two years ago and it was a tough field, but I am happy to finish second on the podium.”
After a disappointing start to the season, Lambert was released from Premier League club Leicester Lions and then signed as number one for the Stoke Potters in the National League.
He has ridden two paid maximums from two meetings so far.
Lambert added: “After getting two maximums for Stoke from my last two meetings, and then coming second in the Golden Hammer meeting this week, it is now coming together.
Kyle Newman (Somerset) won the Golden Hammer with 13 points, finishing ahead of Lambert (Stoke, 12)and Ashley Birks (Stoke, 11).
