BOSTON Hockey Club’s ladies suffered their first defeat of the season.
Debutant Cindy Cottrell netted a brace, but it wasn’t enough for the side to begin their campaign with three straight wins.
Amy Panton donned the keeper’s pads as Donna Chester-O’Neill was unavailable.
Boston started out well but Lincoln started even better and took an early lead.
The visitors soon got a foothold back in the game, and another superb performance in the centre of the pitch by Caroline Chester-O’Neill – plus great defence from Lisa Ceaser, Petra Wood and Claire Nundy – meant Boston were looking good.
Lincoln had the advantage of the familiarity of the bobbly pitch, and a long ball in bounced over Boston’s defenders, allowing the home side to double their advantage.
Boston reacted well and kept up the attacking play, a move involving Lauren Harvey and Katie Beeson saw them going close.
Sarah Hugill was then unlucky not to find the net with a firm strike. However, Lincoln broke quickly and added a third before the break. Boston came out a lot stronger in the second half and didn’t give up on the game.
Substitute Cottrell had an immediate impact.
A good driving run from Chester-O’Neill, supported by Tori Needham, found Cottrell in the D, who finished superbly to get her first goal for Boston and their first of the game.
However, Lincoln pulled one back almost immediately, to restore their three-goal advantage.
Lincoln kept up the pressure winning a number of short corners which were defended well by Boston .
Cottrell finished a move which involved Needham and Chester-O’Neill to give Boston some hope – but Lincoln held firm.
On Saturday, Boston host Grantham (4pm).
