SIX new junior girl members of Boston Rowing Club attended the National Junior Indoor Rowing Championships on Friday at the Lea Valley sports stadium in London - and Lucie Scott returned with a national gold medal.

The incredible achievement by the 12-year-old came in the year nine girls’ race against 160 others from across the country.

All the girls raced as hard as they could for two minutes, and Lucie recorded 533m.

Lucie and the five other girls only started indoor rowing in September, after a joint partnership between British Rowing, Boston Rowing Club and the Boston High School.

The competition was the finale to a 12-week indoor rowing course, prior to learning to row on the water, which was organised and coached by Rebecca Gill (British Rowing), Richard Chester (Boston Rowing Club), Harriet Housam (BHS/BRC). Samantha Watson was 32nd (469m), ahead of Kyra Balderstone 57th (448m), Bethany Holderness 93rd (417m), Kate Lovely 118th (394m) and Kitty Hooper 166th (332m).
