Mastin claims title

While Andy Murray was ensuring he would finish the year as world number one, with his brother Jamie topping the doubles rankings, the Millwood Summer Doubles League winners were presented with trophies at the club’s Dinner Dance.

Played from May until September, the Summer Doubles League involves players competing in a doubles match every three weeks, and accumulating the games that are won with each changing partner.

Totals are then added up over the lifetime of the league and the highest scores win a cash prize and a ticket to the event.

Emma Mastin was the overall winner, claiming the ladies’ prize, while David Dunlop and Geoff Presland shared the men’s title.

Margaret Wright was the ladies’ runner-up.

The Awards Evening to be held at Boston Tennis Club on December 3 will celebrate the achievements of the junior teams in competitions during 2016.

A Touch Tennis Tournament will be held at Boston Tennis Club earlier that day, played on small courts with mini tennis red sponge balls and open to all ages and standards.

Boston Tennis Club will then hold their presentation evening to celebrate the success of junior teams in both the Aegon Team Tennis competition and the Lincolnshire Junior Autumn League.

This weekend Boston’s Senior Men had a tough match against Grimsby in Division One of the Slazenger Lincolnshire Seniors Winter League, going down 2-6 to a strong team.

Boston had Ray Frankish, James Newton, Anthony Hulley and Andy Clamp in action.

The Ladies’ Senior Seconds had a 5-3 win against Collingham in a Division Two match of the Slazenger Lincolnshire Seniors Winter League on a sunny Saturday afternoon, where the team was Catherine Ellis, Helen Duckett, Claire Smith and Mary Smura.

In the Slazenger Lincolnshire Mini Tennis Team Indoor League, Boston Orange C team – Poppy Gibbons and Yasmin Everitt - had good wins against Horncastle (4-1) and Tealby (3-2).

Against Tealby it went down to the doubles rubber.

The girls played well to secure themselves a 10-7 win.
