BOSTON Tennis Club member Matthew Gedney has won the Summer Regional Tour Finals in the nine and under category.

Competing at the National Tennis Centre at Roehampton, Matthew won his group stage and then the semi-final before a very good win in the final – coming through 7-2, 8-6.

Matthew lost only one set throughout the whole tournament.

The Boston Tennis Club Mixed Doubles Tournament, sponsored by Chattertons, took place on Sunday.

Seventeen pairs took part in the event, concluding the last tournament in the 2012 Boston Tennis Club home calendar.

Competitors were divided in to two groups, and the group winners and runners-up emerged as the day went along.

The winners of A group, Sue Burnett and Dom Beesley, played the runners up from B group – Rachel Atkinson and Ray Frankish.

Sue and Dom progressed to the final without the loss of a game, whereas Emily Hawkesworth and Steve Green, group B winners, beat Emma Mastin and Richard Cook 6-2 to move forward to the final.

In a highly-entertaining final, Steve Green and Emily Hawkesworth successfully defended the title which they won last year, beating Dom Beesley and Sue Burnett 6-3.

In the Slazenger Lincolnshire Doubles League, the men’s Fourth team lost 3-6 at home to Tealby.

Sitting at 2-1 up after the first round, the team of Dan Bambridge, Owen Jary, Andy Clamp, Peter Elphick, Sam Khan and Jack Morrow were disappointed not to be able to drive home the advantage.

The men’s Sixth team was delighted to procure a 5-4 win over Skegness.

In an away match, the team of Maurice Lawrence, Charles Tupper, Richard Woods, Zafar Khan, Toby McDonnell Woods and Doug Motson played well to get this result.

The ladies’ Seconds had a good 7-2 win against Grantham on Saturday.

The team was Catherine Ellis, Claire Smith, Jenny McGarel, Rachel Gedney, Vikki Lowe and Mary Smura.
