McCaig wins men’s indoor tennis title

Calum McCaig has won the Boston Tennis Club’s men’s indoor title.

Competing at the Sleaford Road Centre’s New Year Grade 4 competition, he beat James Newton in the final, after victories over Sebastian Barker and Sam Khan.

In a very close final, Newton won the first set but McCaig bounced back to take the second set and third set tie-break.

Jack Morrow beat Sam Khan to take third place and Ryan Frankish was the consolation winner, beating Andy Clamp.

Christian Mills (Derbyshire) and Marcus Witt (Cambridgeshire) won the under 14s and under 12s events respectively.

Boston’s Victoria Beardsley was the runner-up of the girls’ under 14s, missing out to Leah Milligan (Northants).

Boston youngsters took the trio of wins in all of the mini tennis levels – Denby Baker (red), William Cheer (orange) and Matthew Gedney (green) all claimed titles.

Other Boston youngsters competing included Elizabeth Alexander, Juan Advani, Millie Alexander, Matthew Dickens, Tom Hull, Paris Royal and Bradley Worth.
