Mickie Simpson finished second in the third round of the Scunthorpe Youth Speedway Winter Series.
The Wrangle youngster started the day with a heat one win.
Heat two saw him move past Corban Pavitt on the outside to take the lead going into the last lap, only for his bike to cut out coming off the last turn and resulting in a DNF.
After finding the fault, a broken earth wire, he finished third in the third heat.
After winning heat four and coming second in heat five, he took his place in the B final.
However, disaster struck again as the tapes went up and Simpson came to a standstill, the same wire breaking a second time.
With 52 championship points, Mickie sits in second in the overall standings, eight points behind leader Harry McGurk.
