A boxer based at RAF Coningsby has become the force’s first female national champion in the sport.

Cpl Angela Morgan, described by colleagues as a hard-hitting angelic-faced air trafficker, defeated Londoner Alexandria Richards to win the England Boxing National Class B title at 51kgs at the famous York Hall.

Both Morgan and Richards, from Miguel’s Gym, went toe-to-toe in a tight bout, which the RAF girl was awarded by way of split decision.

Both athletes proved their exceptional fitness as the pace increased throughout the bout.

Morgan has been boxing for five years.

She initially took up the sport to keep fit with pal SAC Natasha Price.

However, their friendship was soon tested as these airwomen boxed one another in the finals of the RAF Boxing Association’s Novice Championships at Cranwell’s Lord Wakefield event.

Morgan was so enthused by the surroundings and on winning her first title she also stated her absolute desire to continue competitive boxing.

Her hard work has been paying off as she recently won a silver medal in the Golden Girl Box Cup in Sweden.
