The BSC Friday Night Individual Darts League started it’s 24th season last Friday night with a new set up of five boards this year.
The Boston Standard Premier Division
Debra Royal and Harry Lee got the new season under way. It was very close Deb just edged it 4-3 also getting the first 180 of the season.
Sam Sambo Dawson then took on defending champion Chris Royal. Sambo started very well with an 18 darter and a 75 finish. Chris rallied back to level and take the next leg. Sam hit back again and then both took legs to send it to a decider which Chris took to win 4-3.
Sean Rickell was back into to the league. Rickell took on Dave Snip Hasnip. This was a really good close match. Snip had the success on the doubles to take a good 4-2 win.
Another player back in the league former champ Jamie Robson. Facing him was Harry Lee, both not at their best and a bit rusty. Jamie though was the better on the finishing and took the match 4-2.
As the league had increased to 57 players and gone to five leagues a new and tough league was formed now called the Pizza Perfection Championship.
Paul Taylor took on Rob Cade both were very steady but Paul was finishing very strongly including a 70 checkout to seal the match 4-1.
It was Good to see a former premier player back Simon Trigg who faced Pete Grooby. Pete was pretty steady and a 76 finish for an 18 darter sealed the win 4-1 Simon lacking matches after a four year break said he was heading for the practice board.
Kev Lenton took the opener against Dave Holland. The next couple of legs were tight but Dave was finding the doubles first to go 3-1 up and as kev set up a double in the 5th Dave picked off a 90 finish to take a good 4-1 win.
Last Years Division one winner Anthony Bennett then faced Paul Hicky Hickinbottom who was making his debut in the league. Hicky started very well and was soon two up, Anthony fought back well but Hicky’s finishing was top draw picking off a 100 and 76 finishes to get a dream start of 4-0.
Early for cups but the Flynn Cup was battled by father and son Mick and Dan, fairly close but it was Dan who was slipped the Micky Finn as dad turned it his way 4-1.
T&B Containers Division 2
Great to see Darren Flick Blythe back at the oche. Flick took on quick firing Rob Scrupps, this went all the way to a goth leg decider as Robbie fin on 81.
The decider just went Flicks way to win 3-2.
Due too hols and work only one other game was played and that was between Mark Baily div 3 winner and Newcomer Craig tabby Wightman. Mark took the opener against the nervy Tabby. Then as the game went on Tabby lost his nerves and started to play well with Mark matching him but Craig was firing in on the doubles and marked his debut with a good 4-1 win.
John Smiths Heineken UK div 3
Shaun Denmead got off to a good start in a good game against Angie Upsall.
Angie was steady but Shaun was very consistent and checked well to win 3-0.
Next was the Hunt Cup as Mr and Mrs Hunt, Phil and Di battled away a good close match that went five legs. The decider just went Phil’s way as Di missed her chances for the win so Phil one up with the 3-2 win.
Adam Lurch Gurton then faced Alison Royal making a comeback if memory serves me right. A close opener was taken by Ali. Lurch hit straight back only to see Ali back In front after leg three. Ali produced a great third leg and surged to victory 3-1.
Bob Birtwhistle and Luke Everitt produced 5 good close legs. The decider was Just edged by Bob to win it 3-2.
C & C TV Division 4
Jodie Sygrove took on New comer Debbie Shillito in the first match.bith were playing steady but steadier on the Doubles was Jodie and that gave her a good 3-0 start.
Two players also playing for the first time played each other. Jessica Lymer and Jake Lamyman, both scored very well in the opening leg but their finishing was letting them down coming out first with double to lead was young Jake.
Again both were matching each others steady scoring only to struggle on the doubles again in the next two legs but it was Jake’s night to find em first and get a good start of 3-0.
Next up were couple Louise Willicombe and Dennis Turner. Both looked a bit rusty but Lou was sharper on the doubles and took the honours 2-1.
It was also great to see Liz Chapman back playing. Lizzy took on Sophie Marston. Both started very well , Sophie just edging the first leg, another fine leg from both followed Lizzy had a few chances tho bit it was Sophie who led 2 nil. Both kept the good scoring in leg 3 but this time Lizzy found the double to take a deserved point but Sophie won 2-1.
The final game saw Emma emsy Grant take on Phil Burman, Phil on his first outing on the league. Emsy started well but a great response and very good darts from Phil to take the opener.
Emma battled back well but missed Doubles nearly gave Phil the opportunity to go two up. But ems held to level. The decider was good again from both but Phil was the stronger and checked well to get a good start with the 2-1 win
