NICK Murphy and Mary Bunce were crowned the champions of the fifth annual Dave Broughton Memorial Darts competition.

The event is held at Freiston’s Bull and Dog pub each year, in honour of the popular local darts player and former landlord.

A total of 24 competitors took part in the knockout event.

Nick Murphy overcame Chris Royal in a brilliant final to take the £50 first prize and winners’ certificate in the men’s event.

In the ladies’ final, the Sue Patchett Memorial, Mary Bunce beat Carol Cartwright in an excellent advert for ladies’ darts, taking the £25 first prize in the process. Dale and Christina Broughton, landlord and landlady, and Dave’s son and widow, thanked the turnout and are already making plans for the event to run again next year.
