Paul Oglesbee came out on top as Westwood Lakes hosted their Over 50s Open match on Thursday.

Competing on Skylark Lake, he returned with a haul of 44lb 13oz from peg nine.

Skylark is notoriously slow to wake up after its winter slumber, but 32 brave souls decided to have a go and to everyone’s surprise it fished well.

Results: 1 Paul Oglesbee 44lb 13oz, 2 Jim Smith 41lb 9oz, 3 Rick Tweedle 27lb.

Last Tuesday’s Open Match was fished on Falcon Lake.

Bright and breezy conditions met the anglers who turned up to fish the open, and with the conditions being so changeable it was up in the air how the fish would respond.

First-placed angler was Steve Lane with a weight of 59lb 1oz from peg 20, fishing pellet down the track.

Results: 1 Steve Lane (Marukyu/Westwood Lakes) 59lb 1oz, 2 Richard Kinnersley (Coopers Tackle) 55lb 3oz, 3 Roy Taylor (Westwood Lakes) 51lb 3oz.
