ANOTHER shock this week, when last season’s top team, Penmaen A, dropped more points in defence of their title.

Alan Reetham was the star of the Graves Park B side when he beat John Blyth in five sets, and followed this up with a straight sets victory over Brett Heppenstall of Penmaen A.

Mike Freeston was desperately unlucky to lose out to John, being beaten 13-11 in the deciding leg.

Derek Wood had no problems in beating the three Park lads, and then teamed up with Brett to take the doubles in straight sets from Mike and Alan, giving Penmaen an 8-2 victory on the night.

l Whilst the victory was emphatic, Grave Park A’s 10-0 scoreline against Lodgers E does not do justice to Lodgers’ efforts, only three games being over in straight sets.

Colin Bell took Phil Brooks and Rob Smith to five ends, while Steve Harker also took Phil to five ends, each time losing out to the Park lads.

David Kime and Steve Harker then teamed up to take on Rob Smith and Phil Brooks in the doubles, and yet again, a five sets defeat resulted.

l With only two players available, Graves Park C already knew they were in for a difficult evening when they visited Lodgers G.

Martin Walters got closest to a victory when he took Mark Hulme to five ends, whilst James Quinton took an end out of Gary Hill.

But it was to no avail, the Lodgers’ players closing out the games on their way to a 10-0 victory.

Results: Graves Park B 2, Penmaen A 8; Graves Park A 10, Lodgers E 0; Lodgers G 10, Graves Park C 0

l Jason Cade was unbeaten when Sibsey A visited Lodgers C, dropping only one end, in his game against Pete Truepenny.

Samantha Langford chipped in with a victory against Steve Blanchard, and then paired up with Jason to beat Pete and Peter Bell in the doubles to ensure honours were even on the night.

l Sibsey B were given an unexpected boost when Nomads could only field two players, Steve Hill piling more pressure on Nomads when he beat Walt Bridges in the second game of the evening.

Tris Clow dropped sets in each of his games, pulling through to beat Richard Hill and Wayne Grooby in four, and Steve in five.

All the other games were over in straight sets, in Nomads’ favour, leaving Sibsey with a narrow 4-6 defeat.

Results: Lodgers C 5, Sibsey A 5; Sibsey B 4, Graves Park Nomads 6
