Old Leake pigeon fanciers Ray Knight and Sons were within a whisker of repeating the performance which was the talk of the sport last season - when they won, and completely dominated, the results in the North Road Championship Club’s classic young bird race.

On Saturday, in the 2014 version of this top young bird race from Berwick, they did not win, but were second in the provisional result, and their many timings in quick succession suggest that they will take many of the leading positions when the consolidated result is published.

The honour of winning the race, which attracts entries from a wide area of the country, went to 27-year-old Darren Perry, of Alford.
