BOSTON Rowing Club came away from the Norwich Head of the River race at the weekend with two wins out of four junior races.
Joe Burns and Matthew Adams finished in top spot in the junior boys’ 16 years double sculls category.
In an extremely close race, they beat Sudbury by two seconds in a time of 9 mins 20 secs on the 2k course.
The Boston boat came fourthth overall from the 30 boats in the afternoon’s short course division.
Also claiming a first place was Harriet Housam, returning to winning ways by competing in her single sculling boat in the women’s junior 17 years category (WJ17 1X).
She demonstrated determination and stamina to finish in 25 mins 52 secs, which was more than a minute ahead of her nearest rival from Cambridge City, over 5k.
Polly and Saffy Summerfield doubled together and came second in their WJ14 2X category in a time of 10 mins 22 secs, which was only 19 seconds behind the winning boat from Sudbury, and came a well deserved 18th out of 38 boats overall in the mornings division.
Joe also combined with Jody McNichol in the morning’s 5k race.
They came third in their intermediate (IM1 2X) category in a time of 24 mins 30 secs, behind St Ives and King’s School.
Boston will now concentrate on their next two events, the London Head of the River and the Lincoln Head, before the club hosts its re-arranged Rowing Marathon to be staged on April 1.
