BOSTON and District AC’s younger athletes produced some impressive performances in the National Young Athletes match at Derby on Sunday.
Six members made their debuts at the Moorways Stadium and there were personal best performances for a number of regulars.
There were nine victories for the Gold Tops with Under 15 Ryan Smith making his debut and securing a winning treble.
In the 100m Ryan recorded 12.9 secs and followed this with 26.7 secs in the 200m and a leap of 4.97m in the long jump contest for a trio of first places.
Ryan also contributed to the 4x100m relay team’s second place.
In the same age group Rares Demeter won the hammer event with a 13m throw.
In the under 15 girls age group, Frances Nuttell won the high jump with a leap of 1.50m, just one centimetre shy of her personal best.
She gained a further victory in the pole vVault going over the bar at 2m.
At under 17 level Oliver Smith won the 200m recording 23.9 secs and Josh Wattam looked smooth over the 400m hurdles clocking 64.2 secs in first place and went on to claim fourth places in both the 100m (12.2 secs) and the 100m Hurdles (15.6 secs).
Maria Hollingsworth was an emphatic winner in the 80m hurdles event when she recorded an ESAA Championships entry standard time of 12.9 secs without being seriously challenged.
On his club debut, under 15 Eric Jackson threw the discus 28.01m and then claimed second place in the long jump with a leap of 4.68m.
In the 100m he clocked 13.3 secs to add a fourth place to his promising tally of performances.
