Boston West Golf Club’s Senior Section held their Captain’s Away Day at Waltham Windmill.

The stableford competition was won by John Wade, with 39 points.

In second was Mike McPhail (38), ahead of third-placed Neil McCallum (38) and John Pattenden (34) in fourth.

Barrie Wilkinson (34) was fifth, ahead of Peter Sleight (33) and Dick Young (32).

The veteran winner was Dennis Barton with 33 points.

Four Nearest the Pin winners were Gary King, John Chain, Eddie Hunt and Arnold Bennett.

The Monthly Medal was won by John Clark with a nett 67.

In second was Jim Weight (68), third went to Ian McKenzie (70) and fourth, on countback, was Ricky Elms, also on nett 70.

The Cyril Smith Memorial Trophy was won by Neil McCallum on 38 points.

The runner-up was Harold Maddy with 35 points and third went Barrie Wilkinson (34).

Norman Stanley was third, also on 34 points.

Three team matches have been played by the seniors this month.

Boston West beat Toft 5-3, the winning pairs being Stewart Pikett and Gary King (4&3), Phil Thomas and Terry Coulter (5&4), Ricky Elms and Barrie Wilkinson (4&2), Rod Roberts and Gerry Green (2&1), and John Clark and Peter Whyers (3&2).

Away to Sleaford the guest team was beaten 6-2, and the two winning pairs were Stewart Pikett with John Pattenden (1&0) and Phil Thomas with Keith Boothby (4&3).

The away match against South Kyme was played towards the end of August and the home team won 6.5-1.5.

The winning pair was Gary King and Norman Smith (5&3), while Phil Thomas and Neil McCallum halved their match.
