Wrangle youngster Mickie Simpson started his Winter Series Speedway campaign at Scunthorpe... claiming a second-place finish.

After battling with fellow competitor Sam McGurk in his first three heats, taking three wins, his fourth heat saw him come up against two of the top lads in the class, Harry McGurk and Jordan Palin.

Both competitors are regular winners in this class.

After leading into the first corner and battling with McGurk for most of the first lap, Mickie, 11, came home in third.

Mickie’s fifth ride saw him come home with another race win to put him straight into the final level in second with Palin.

The final had to be re-run after Palin crashed, but walked away unharmed.

Harry McGurk won with Mickie second and Luke Harrison third.
