Boston ABC’s Tommy Upsall was beaten in his Notts & Lincs title defence against Ethan Squires.

Upsall was competing in a show in Hucknall, Nottinghamshire, on Saturday night where a split decision went against him - much to the chagrin of the Boston corner who believed their man had fought well enough to retain his coveted belt.

After competing at Haringey’s Box Cup the previous weekend, Upsall (pictured) showed no signs of ring fatigue and started strongly against his younger opponent.

However, Squires, from Newark ABC, started equally as strong, with both on the offensive from the first bell.

Upsall was boxing in his usual style, his close quarter work was strong and clean and his combination work was having the desired effect.

This became the pattern of the fight as Upsall pummelled Squires to the body at every opportunity.

The contest was close but Squires got the nod and was crowned the new Notts & Lincs champion.

Fellow Boston fighter Kian Penn was facing Charlie Potts of Pheonix ABC, and both were eager to please the capacity crowd.

Penn started strongly from the first bell, his quick hands and feet and superior style proving too much and claiming the unanimous decision.
