GOLF whizz Billy Spooner has been invited to link up with the England under 16s team... aged just 13.

Wyberton youngster Billy will join members of the England squad for training sessions on February 10-12 in Bath.

“I think it shows, that by being asked so early on in his career, that this is testament to what kind of player they think he will be in the future,” said Billy’s dad Andy.

“He’s delighted to be called up and everyone’s delighted for him.”

By attending sessions with the squad, the England set-up will be able to evaluate the youngster’s progress, with the possibility of also calling him up to compete for his country in future matches.

However, he will continue his personal progress under the guidance of Boston Golf Club pro Nick Hiom, who Billy has been with since a five-year-old.

Billy’s call-up has meant a double success for Hiom, who also saw fellow pupil Jordan Wrisdale called up to the England under 16s side late last year, where he helped his side to victory in Ireland.

Last year, Billy, along with Jordan, were both part of the Lincolnshire under 18s team which won the English Boys’ County Finals for the first time in history.

Billy also finished fourth in the British Under 14s Championships in Hertfordshire.

He plays off a handicap of one.
