Stainton wins Boston GC’s McPhunn Trophy

CHRIS Stainton saw off the challenge of David Richardson to win Boston Golf Club’s Peter McPhunn Trophy by one shot.

He recorded a nett 67 to win the event – for the club’s higher handicappers – on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Nicky Frost underlined why he is one of the Cowbridge club’s top players, not only in the junior section, as he won the Alternative Trophy, for the lower handicap golfers.

Competitors in both events got away lightly with the weather conditions, there only being a couple of heavy showers as opposed to the deluges of the previous day.

In The McPhunn Trophy (12-28 category), Stainton shot a best of the day nett 67 to win by one from Richardson, while the Alternative Medal saw Frost shoot a nett 68, playing off a handicap of five.
